Behind the scenes.

My name is Rebecca, and I am the soap artist behind Pennywhistle. I have loved soap for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I often would choose large bars of soap as my "pick one thing" item when shopping with my mom. One year, Santa gave me a melt & pour kit which kept me entranced for the entire Christmas break. I burned through those glycerin blocks quickly, and spent the rest of my allowance buying more supplies, making pounds and pounds of soap. As an adult, I took classes from other soapers, read books about soapmaking, and always shopped at other makers’ booths at craft fairs and farmers’ markets. After years of hanging on the sidelines, and a deep longing to know the cold-process soap art form (which is very different from melt & pour), I finally gathered the courage to start making my own soap.

I launched Pennywhistle in 2023. I take immense pride in my work, my recipes, and every detail that goes into each bar. My soaps are made with high quality ingredients and are eco-friendly - I do not use palm oil or animal products. Most of my recipes are olive-oil based.

Pennywhistle is partly named after my beloved coonhound, Penny. A penny whistle is an inexpensive Irish flute that carries a beautiful sound. I enjoy the small luxuries in life, and that is what handmade soap is to me - a little slice of luxury and a moment for yourself.
